Workshop: Technology in Schools - AI Applications, Concerns, and Ethical Considerations

Duration: Three hours BUT can make it shorter or longer

Workshop Outline:

Introduction (15 minutes)

Welcome and icebreaker activity to build rapport among participants.
Brief overview of the workshop's objectives and structure.

Session 1: AI Applications in Education (30 minutes)

Presentation on AI applications in schools, including personalized learning, adaptive assessment, and administrative optimization.
Group discussion: Participants share their experiences and thoughts on AI integration in their schools.

Session 2: Concerns and Challenges (30 minutes)

Interactive activity: Participants work in small groups to identify concerns and challenges related to technology in schools.
Each group presents their findings, and the facilitator leads a discussion to explore common themes and issues.

Break (15 minutes)

Session 3: Ethical Considerations (30 minutes)

Presentation on the ethical dimensions of AI in education, emphasizing responsible AI use and transparency.
Case study analysis: Participants examine real-world examples and discuss the ethical implications.

Session 4: Strategies and Best Practices (30 minutes)

Facilitated brainstorming: Participants collaborate to develop strategies and best practices for addressing concerns and implementing ethical AI in schools.
Group presentations and peer feedback.

Session 5: Hands-On Activity - Building an AI Ethical Framework (30 minutes)

Participants work individually or in pairs to create an AI ethical framework tailored to their school or district.
Sharing and peer review: Each group presents their framework, and participants provide constructive feedback.

Session 6: Action Planning (15 minutes)

Participants develop action plans based on the strategies and frameworks discussed during the workshop.
Facilitated discussion: Participants share their action plans, receive input, and refine their ideas.

Closing and Reflection (15 minutes)

Recap of key takeaways from the workshop.
Participants reflect on what they've learned and set personal or group goals for implementing ethical AI practices in their schools.

Workshop Materials:

Presentation slides
Handouts with case studies and discussion questions
Flipcharts and markers for group activities
Sticky notes for brainstorming and action planning

Facilitators:

Experienced educators with knowledge of AI in education and ethical considerations.

Participant Requirements:

Participants should come prepared to discuss their school or district's current use of technology and AI, if applicable.
Participants are encouraged to bring laptops or tablets for research and sharing resources during group activities.

This condensed three-hour workshop aims to provide participants with a foundational understanding of AI in education, the associated concerns and ethical considerations, and practical strategies for responsible AI integration in schools.
