Research shows that experiences that allow experimentation and engage both mind and body are how we learn best. During this session we will explore how incorporating playful elements into our classrooms can enhance productivity and foster deep learning experiences. Join us as we challenge traditional beliefs about learning and discover new ways to engage and support our students.

Attendees will see a systematic step-by-step process of how iSucceed Virtual High School uses grade and progress reports to highlight weekly achievement, term achievement, and annual progress. Vetting Education Technology
Online educational applications and services are becoming an increasingly important part of what teachers and schools use to educate our children. But have you ever stopped to think about the privacy implications of using always-on, always-connected applications and technology in the classroom? The U.S. Department of Education, through the Student Privacy Policy Office (SPPO)'s Privacy Technical Assistance Center (PTAC presents a discussion of how the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) applies in the context of education technology and provides a roadmap to understanding how to protect student privacy in the digital context. PTAC aims, with this session, to give the audience the tools and knowledge necessary to properly evaluate these apps for privacy protections and learn how to identify applications which may not put student privacy at the forefront.

Saved by the Spell(Checker)?: How to leverage technology to support students’ spelling and writing
Children interact with technology on a daily basis that requires them to type, and many programs use spellcheckers to support these tasks. However, those spellcheckers are generally designed for more traditional users: adults. As a result, most commercially available spellcheckers can actually impede the clarity of writing, rather than supporting student autonomy and voice as writers. The fact that out-of-the-box spellcheckers do not work well for children is well known by educators, but they need strategies to help students leverage this technology and develop as spellers and writers. In this session, we will first discuss spelling, generally, and why standard spellcheckers are so bad at correcting student spelling. Next, we will present simple strategies children can be taught to more effectively utilize the spellcheckers integrated into their existing technology. Finally, we will present a freely available novel spellchecker (KidSpell) that uses a phonological approach to spelling correction and provides students with audio and visual cues to help them select their intended word from a list of suggestions.

The Future of Cloud Based Safe and Smart Campuses
Meraki Vision (MV) disrupted the physical security industry by removing the need for external NVRs, DVRs or servers. As a cloud-managed solution, our customers can remotely access footage, meaning they no longer need to be on campus to conduct an investigation.

The Meraki MT sensor family intelligently monitors indoor environments, but that means more than just collecting sensor data. The real value comes from using data to proactively address issues before they begin or maximize resources to increase efficiency. For example, a leak in a water pipe above the data center, unusual power anomalies in connected devices, or high levels of CO2 in a classroom can all be monitored and acted upon before equipment fails or people suffer. The MT sensor product family is designed to provide this rich contextual insight to help you prepare today for the unseen challenges of tomorrow.

Meraki Smart Cameras and Sensors help keep your school safe by:
- Reducing incident investigation time through the Meraki Vision Portal and/or mobile App
- Detecting harmful chemicals, including vape particles and CO2 that are in the air
- Sending an alert & snapshot if an exterior door is propped open
- Providing assistance buttons in classrooms for rapid response

And, all of this can be tied into other solutions via API, triggering mass notifications and incident management, for instance.

Come learn how to help keep students and faculty safe with a modern, data-driven approach to school physical security.

Learning to Search: A Critical Skill in Today’s Information-Abundant World
Digitized information continues to grow at a rapid pace. Fortunately teachers are there to curate, guide, and scaffold how children access information. However, children utilize resources beyond those provided by teachers and often turn to the open web to find additional informational resources. Learning to search and identify helpful information requires learning effective strategies for searching for information on the internet. In this workshop, we will break down the search process into its primary steps, including: defining the task, choosing an appropriate search tool, building a query, evaluating the results, searching for more/different information. For each of these steps, there are child-specific needs that are different than those of adults, they need additional or different support to accomplish these tasks, and there are ways to scaffold and teach children to be better searchers. We will address these aspects and how different search tools (e.g. traditional search tools, or voice tools, or even ChatGPT) change the way these need to be addressed, but all have particular child-specific needs that should be considered and addressed.

AI Writing Lab: Discovering what GPT can and can't do to improve your writing process
The introduction of AI tools has the power to fundamentally change the writing process, and already has many teachers worried about plagiarism and academic honesty. However, helping students get a handle on how and when using AI can actually improve their process and product is by far the best way we can both teach and assess student writing and honor the reality that generative AI will be a fundamental part of their school and work lives.
In this workshop, participants will engage in an experiment to discover which parts of the writing process are most aided by AI tools, and discuss strategies for replicating this multi-part exercise with their students.

Students in the Zone- Engaging, student-centered learning within Clear Touch’s Solution
Educators already have a full plate and little time to plan; they’ve been asked to create and invent enough and are stretched thin by the growing demands of their role. What if educators could use their existing instructional resources and content, what they know to be tried and true, and seamlessly integrate it into one engaging, student-centered environment? Clear Touch’s solution includes NUITEQ Snowflake software which allows teachers to customize and adapt to student needs in the heat of the instructional moment with resources they already have. Additionally this environment allows for easy integration of more interactive materials such as live-web resources, video, and quick, fun gamification for an increase in differentiation and a higher level of student engagement. Students and teachers alike should be interacting at the Clear Touch panel! The discussions that arise from these teaching moments can be recorded on a Snowflake Chorus whiteboard file, shared with students to their personal devices, saved as part of a Zone layout with other activities running congruent or in the background of the Snowflake program, and then called up again later when revisiting the lesson with the group to scaffold and progress to the next step in that group’s learning.
